Kimchi

Kimchi goes way back in the old days.  Evidences regarding Kimchi can be found in between 2601-3001 years ago.  The earliest reference to it is written in a Chinese poem, Shi Jing.  In this poem, Kimchi is referred to as Ji.  This term is used until pre-modern term started to come around, which is Chimchae, meaning soaked vegetables. Then, it changed into Dimchae, Timchae and finally, during the period of the Three Kingdom of Korea, the word was modified into Jimchi and in this era it is known as Kimchi.

Kimchi is the most famous traditional food that is served with just about every meal in Korea.  It is made from vegetables, widely with Chili pepper.  Also, the Kimchi is often fermented with ingredients like Chinese cabbage, radish, garlic, red pepper, spring onion, shrimp, ginger, salt, and sugar.

Usually, the types of vegetables used to make Kimchi are celery cabbage and white radish.

Traditional jars are commonly used for storing kimchi until it fermented and ready to be eaten.  Other things such as gochujang (hot pepper paste) and doenjang (soybean paste) are also stored in one of these jars.

Care for some trivia?

  • In Korea, there exists a special refrigerator made just for storing Kimchi. Most of the Koreans tend to make Kimchi in such a huge amount because of the harvest of celery cabbages during winter season. That is why they invented a special storage for Kimchi that enables the fermented vegetables to last for a year long. For the love of Kimchi!

  • Instead of saying the word "Cheese" when posing for photographs, Korean people say “Kimchi"! How about we give it a try some time?

Say, Kim-Chi~  (◕‿◕。)

Ergonomics

Ergonomics is a term that has been used for various fields, such as in health prospects or in marketing division.  For some subjects, it has a very specific meaning.  For others, it practically covers everything under the sun.  With all this different verbiage flying at you, you are probably starting to wonder, “What is Ergonomics?”

First off, we start by learning the origin of the name ‘Ergonomics’.  This term derives from two Greek words, ergon means work and nomoi means natural laws.  Therefore, with the two words combined, a whole new meaning has been brought to life, which literally means the science of work and a person’s relationship to that work.

“Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.” – International Ergonomics Association (Source, Wikipedia)

Obviously the above statement is a tad bit much of a technical definition on ergonomics.  Save yourself the complexity and let’s keep things simple.  Ergonomics is basically the science of making things comfy.  Ultimately, it places a positive impact on efficiency in work.  In layman’s term, it is doing a job in a comfortable work station, sit in a comfortable chair, work for long hours without feeling tired, and able to produce a great result!

G-Dragon World Tour 2013 : One of a Kind

22nd of June 2013, is one of the days I had enjoyed my life to the fullest.

Yes folks, you saw the photo right.  I indeed have gone to G-Dragon’s first world tour concert 2013 in Malaysia, “One of a Kind”!
 (((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))

Now I humbly invite you to the memory lane of my experience during the fantastic concert by G-Dragon, the leader of  Big Bang.

I reached Stadium National Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur at about 6 p.m. with my sister and her friend.  The concert was supposed to start at 8 p.m., so we lingered around the stalls that sold all kinds of G-Dragon goodies.  We purchased a yellow light stick to wave during the whole time of concert and a muffler to swing around during one of the songs performed.  Also, some other things we had been tempted to buy.

After that we proceeded to queue behind a long line of people.  At first, we weren’t really sure what were we queuing for.  But after asking some of the staff that happened to pass by us, we found out that line was not the entrance towards our ticket zone yet, but it was the main entrance to enter the stadium.  Wow, no wonder the line was so very long, it was a mixture of all zones of fans waiting just to get in the stadium!  Such a huge place Stadium Bukit Jalil is…  Want to see the sea of G-Dragon's fans queuing? (゜◇゜)

Ta-da~!

Isn't it an amazing sight?  We had to wait in that long line for about an hour to get inside.  Well, considering the size of that place along with the large crowd, it was to be expected it would take a lengthy amount of time.  Thankfully, there wasn’t any problem being escalated as we got in.

Now inside the stadium was a whole different story, the battle started here.  We had to sprint our way towards where the concert stage was set up; we wanted to be near the front line of our zone!  But of course, we weren’t the only one who ran there.  Competitions, competitions...

When we had settled on our spot, we sat down; both as a form of guarding our jumping space and resting our legs.  The screens displayed G-Dragon’s past music videos and the crowd sang along the lyrics as they occupied themselves watching it.  Seconds grew to minutes, the videos have repeated itself countless time as the clock ticked passed 8 p.m.  Burned with anticipation, the fans were eagerly chanting out the singer’s name in hope for his appearance.

Then all of the sudden the crowd started shouting louder than usual.  I took a quick glance at the lighting crew, they were standing up! (Yes, if they are in their posts, means the concert is about to start.)

Music gradually grew louder, and then ‘BANG!’.  An explosion coming out from the stage ultimately geared up the fans' excitement to the peak.  A glass sports car drove along the main stage, and at last G-Dragon made his grand appearance on the ethereal crystal automobile.  The first song called ‘Michi-GO’ played to the highest beat, followed by ‘Heartbreaker’.

It was all a blur to mind when it comes to screaming your lungs every time a song comes out, so I couldn’t really remember the details properly.  But there was one time where G-Dragon had actually sat down on the edge of stage, facing my direction.  And all of the crowds behind forcibly pushed me forward.  I was sandwiched, literally, because of the push and pull situation.  Regardless I stood still, refusing to let anyone slipped past me.  My physical power wasn’t really strong before, but somehow in each and every concert I went, there it was, my strength firmer than iron steel.  Fortunately some fans stayed away from me for fear of getting stepped on since I love to jump haphazardly.

…For those whose feet had been stepped on by me, I apologize for my hyper activeness. (;-_-)ノ

The dancers on the other hand, were also popular among the fans.  When the dancers went down the stage near our zone, I saw some of the fans got to shake hands with the dancers.  Mind you, I felt quite jealous about it.  The female dancers were all very pretty!  I like how they brought themselves up on stage.  Also, not to forget the male dancers, they were quite a looker!  Did I mention there were twin male dancers who love to interact with the fans?  Both of them were really cute that night. Not that I know how to differentiate between the twins, with that similar feature and costume...

G-Dragon's performances were simply awesome.  My favorite live stage was when he began his song, 'Obsession' with its haunting melody being tuned to life.  He appeared on stage wearing a simple black jacket with fingerless leather gloves, and sang out the words.  The song is about a woman that he was utterly infatuated with. About the woman who had accepted him as just a friend, and nothing more.  Therefore, he sang out his frustration on how he wanted her to only look at him.  After what it seemed to be an endless love for her, he had turned it into an obsession.

A woman wrapped in a velvet red cloth was seen to be standing in a large gold linings portrait frame.  As G-Dragon rapped, he slowly made his way up a series of ladders on the stage, getting closer and closer to the object of his obsession.  And as he came close to reaching her, she fell out of the frame, down and down she fell.  The song came to an end as the red curtain descended over her and G-Dragon was on his knees, portraying his grief over the loss of the girl he loved.

G-Dragon put up another stage as a continuation of 'Obsession'.  He paired up the last image of his loss expertly with his next song, 'She's Gone', which expressed a similarly intense sentiment.  While still up on the ladders, G-Dragon dramatically performed this emotional performance as he gradually descended back onto the main stage.  This combined performances left a deep impression in me, particularly how brilliant it was to make it into a theater-musical concept stage.

All good things must come to an end.  It was a remarkable concert.  But I shall preserve it in my mind always.  Luckily, some of those memorable moments were caught, here they are...

A New Chapter with KTT~!

After finally graduated from my five years of high school, I was left for a long vacation of waiting.  Spending months from lingering around in the comfort of home to weighing the stress of work, anxiously waiting for the result of admission to IPTA.  I was hoping wholeheartedly to be able to be admitted to a public university, considering private universities and colleges would cost way too expensive.  It didn't feel right burdening my family to such an extent.

And so, that fated day on May 17th of 2013 the result was released online.

I was so sure I would be able to get into one, albeit it could have been somewhere far from home.  It was really one of those times where you should grab onto whatever opportunity that have been thrown at you.

But things didn't go as planned; turned out I didn't get the IPTA.  No matter how many times I refreshed the website page, it still stated the same words. ((T.T; )

Feeling crushed, I opted for a moment of depression. If I cannot get the chance to further my study, it would just mean I have to start working without any qualification. It was the last option that I would want to consider. Unknown to me, my mother who hadn't given up on me, relentlessly searched for another way to get me into college.  She made use of the Internet for options, and called few institutes and colleges regarding the courses I was interested in.  All in all, she finally found the right college for me. It was as if I was given a second chance in life.

And that was how I was introduced to my future college, Kolej Teknologi Timur (KTT).

I didn't really have a proper look at the picture displaying the college; it looked fine at one glance so it didn't occur to me to check it elsewhere.  Besides, I was too busy spending my very last moments of freedom.  When the day for me to enter the college officially arrived with my bag pack and all, you could say I was rendered speechless at the real sight of the college.  Only then it hit me with the fact that the building had stood for so many years, it was to be expected for it to look pretty much worn out.

Good thing I saw a mini mart across the street. It seemed to have some kind of a savior aura to the residents around the area, so I went there to peek on some stuff available.

And guess what I found using my ninja skills?

There were enough supplements for me to live there, lucky me! What kind of supplements, you ask?  Well, there’s tons of bread and my favorite drink, Milo. Plus, they have that awesome and practical instant tea 3-in-1 packets! True, it doesn't tastes as good as the real one, but it had sufficed my tea addiction pretty good. Have I mentioned how tea totally goes well with the biscuits sold at that heavenly shop. ♥(ノ´∀`) Yes folks, that mini mart means everything to me! It makes my everyday meals looked like this in my eyes,

And yes, I can survive with just these kind of food. <( ̄︶ ̄)>

I was accepted to stay in a hostel; it was sort of an apartment, really.  And then when I was told that I’d be having seven roommates in that 'apartment' of two rooms and just one bathroom∑(O_O;) Well that had definitely caught me off guard...

But honestly, I’m glad to have a lot of roommates since I wanted to practice on my social skills. I’m not much of a talkative girl during the years of my school life.  So I think of this as a way to develop a more lively side of me.  Anxiety swam through me at each and every conversation I tried to build up with others. To my surprise, my roommates are all pretty much easy-going, despite each of them have their own very distinctive personality.

Somehow, we manage to live together without any serious problems.  I’m really grateful I got to have great roommates such as them.

As I went through the orientation week, I met a whole new crowd of people.

At first, I couldn't get used to the unfamiliar situation in which there wasn't anyone whom I knew in my group, so unconsciously I crawled back into my shell of recluse.

But then, we had to make a drama performance that ultimately required absolute cooperation from each members of our group.  During that time where we... I mean, the active members were trying hard to put up some ideas into the drama, but due to lack of communications, they instead came to the "writer’s block" crisis. There were members who are either shy or just dependent towards other active members, so these people are not being particularly productive to the group.

Suddenly I realized I too, was a part of the inactive members; and that was what pulled me back to reality. I remembered the vow I made to myself, to be someone sociable.  Thus with bits of hesitation, I braved myself to offer my own opinion on the ideas that had grown stunted.

As I voiced out my opinion, I noticed some members appeared to be shocked by the fact that I went on to do what I did, given that I was first seen as that one lone girl sitting among the other quiet people.  But you know what?  I’m glad I did it.

After they hear out my suggestion about the drama, gradually one by one started to help on drawing the base concepts about our upcoming performance. Things went pretty smoothly after that, it was a situation where everyone had understood teamwork and communication are essential for such an event. And best of all, we have learnt on how to relax and just have fun in doing the things we do. I remembered the time where our real performance would soon to be brought on stage; all of us were wrecked with nervousness as we saw one group after another presented great performance. When our turn had finally come, we encouraged one another as they went on the stage to act.

It was really an exciting experience for not only me, but also everyone participating in the group.

The final day of orientation had reached its closing ceremony.

The members of our group didn't come back empty-handed fortunately; all our hard work had paid off as it turned out our group had gotten three awards based on our whole week of orientation. It gives off such a great feeling of achievement! And after we bid our good byes to each other, we dragged ourselves to the much needed sleep; well at least I did since my brain won’t function normally without sleeping. Nevertheless, I would always remind myself that my number one priority is to get my paper qualification. I look forward to to learn more about the course that I have chosen.

When there’s a will, there’s a way. Remember, second chances are not meant to be wasted so look forward towards your own shiny future!
